Frequently Asked Questions
I don't read manuals, tell me how to start a journey?
First, go to the map and double-tap to place the green target marker. This is your destination. Flip to the main navigation screen and you will see the target coordinates at the top. Click the location icon to the left of these. This icon, and the coordinates should turn green. The distance to this target should show in the middle of the compass rose, and a green arrow indicates the direction. Push "start" to start navigating. Now lock the phone, place in a pocket (ideally a chest pocket or back pocket of shorts or trousers) with the camera pointing forward. Start walking towards the target. You can trigger a voice update by double-bumping the phone. It should "chirp" to indicate the double-bump was registered, and then tell you if you are off-course or not, and the distance to your target.
Is it really free?
Yes. It is a free app, and we intend to keep it advertising-free too. Depending on the
reception, we may offer subscription options later to fund extended features, but we aim to
keep the base version both free, and free of advertising.
Can I switch to imperial units?
Yes, in the settings there is an option to switch to imperial units, with miles and feet used for distance.
What happens when I reach the destination?
When you reach the destination, the app will tell you that you have arrived and will stop the navigation.
How do I stop a journey?
While navigating, the "stop" button is disabled, so you can't accidentally stop a journey. Instead, you must first "pause" the journey. You can then either stop, or restart the journey.
Surely the compass needs the phone to be horizontal?
Not necessarily. The magnetometer in most modern phones can detect in 3 dimensions. But it is important to know which orientation the phone is in order to optimize the display or voice guidance accordingly. We use the inclinometer in the phone to sense if the phone is above or below 45 degrees inclination, and then switch mode accordingly.
